Harvest Time

In the fall when plants return/By harvest time she knows the score
Ripe and ready to the eye/Yet rotten somehow to the core

Our neighbours, friends & relations to the North celebrate their harvest festival today, which they call Thanksgiving,
just as United States Americans do. They certainly have one thing for which to be thankful: They aren't United States Americans!!
[O]ver the next decade, they found a reason to be even more grateful: they were spared the bloodshed of the U.S. Civil War. The thanksgiving days that the government proclaimed during that era were highly religious, with newspapers printing the Thanksgiving sermons the following day.

“[Thanksgiving] was a solemn, holy day in the middle of the week when people would go to church,” he says, “and thank God for how fortunate they are to be Canadian.”
The eventual secular reality:
In the years since, the early-autumn timing has been a boon. With the holiday now detached from its religious beginnings, most Canadians think of it as a time to savor the last mild weather before the northern winter starts.
Equal time: The Canadian version ("odd & complicated") from a real Canadian magazine. The Ceeb's website has a comedy section (Take that, Voice of America!) w/ a very exclusionary collection of Canadian in-jokes that flew
right over this reporter's head & a Comedy Op-Ed from just last yr.:

CUTE! Americans celebrate their own adorable little
version of Canadian Thanksgiving

Which leads us back to these United Snakes, where the Ignoramus-in-Chief thinks that Cristoforo Colombo dude is
still a happening deal, w/ a not-unexpected exception:
While honoring “the skilled navigator and man of faith, whose courageous feat brought together continents,” in his first Columbus Day proclamation, President Donald Trump made no mention of Native Americans.
Locally, for the City Council it's to hell w/ C.C., no offense to the Eye-talo-Amurkin population. The County Supes followed suit, but no one even bothered to show up & bitch.
Now get out there & reap what you've sown!
