Modern Sheriffin'

West Hollywood is a city of less than a mile & a half square, but yesterday the L.A. County Sheriff's Dep't., which contracts its services & protection to the city, took less than three mins. to put four patrol cars & an S.U.V. at the scene of a contretemps between a homeless victim of your ugly pig society & a bunch of hardhats putting up something where KCOP Channel 13 used to be before that bastard Rupert Murdoch bought it & moved it to Century City w/ Channel 11.
Vicious, dangerous criminal successfully placed in custody.
In the three mins. it took this reporter to determine nothing more worth photographing would occur & wander off two more deputy-mobiles arrived, for a total of six prowl cars & one supervisor-mobile.

Thanks For Nothing

Getting tired of the Mayor of Baltimore. Is she thanking the thugs of the B.P.D. for starting all of this?
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake: I want to sincerely thank police department, law enforcement partners;
For what does she thank the Police Dep't., murdering her constituents & causing violent demonstrations? Throwing rocks & bottles at the people of Baltimore? Just being their murdering pig selves?

Good illustration of what's wrong, not just w/ the Mayor, who would appear to have been sitting on her ass as all this crap happened before Freddie Gray was murdered under color of authority, but w/ the whole fucking city & gov't. like this, why shouldn't it be burned to the ground?
Imagine instead if Lemon had taken a moment to ask Rawlings-Blake to account for the fact that the city she runs has paid out millions of dollars in settlements to (mostly black) victims of police brutality. Or grilled her on just why she thought Freddie Gray had wound up with his spine almost completely severed while in police custody. Or why Gray’s so-called “rough ride” fits so neatly into a long-running pattern of police misconduct. Or what Rawlings-Blake and Hogan planned to do to curb an apparently out-of-control police force. Or even why the two most powerful public officials in Maryland thought that their biggest city was in such a deeply combustible state, and why a large swath of Baltimore’s citizens so clearly regarded the police as an enemy.
Instead, she kisses up to the real criminals. Pathetic.

Also from Salon:

The police are the problem: Why it’s time to take on Maryland’s cop unions

If lawmakers in Baltimore are serious about reform, they'll have to confront tyrannical police unions first

Confront them at gunpoint, I hopeif necessary.

A joke because the American electorate is almost entirely illiterate, uninformed ignoramuses.

Yes, It's Murder. Why Do You Ask?

ZION, Ill. — The death of a teen shot twice in the back by a Zion, Ill. police officer reportedly has been ruled a homicide.

17-year-old Justus Howell was shot while running from police in the far north suburb earlier this month.

At the time, police said a handgun was recovered from the scene of the shooting, but witnesses told the newspaper Howell was not armed.

The Sun-Times reports the Lake County coroner found no evidence that Howell was drunk or high on drugs when he was shot — although he did have some alcohol and marijuana in his system.

A task force made up of police, the FBI and Lake County prosecutors is investigating the shooting.

Capitalist Sows And The Lies They Tell

(Reuters) - Mary Pat Christie, the wife of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, resigned from her Wall Street job, his spokesman confirmed, as her husband contemplates a run for the White House in 2016.

Her resignation from New York-based Angelo Gordon & Co, which manages hedge funds and alternative investments, is perhaps the clearest sign yet that Christie is likely to officially announce that he will be a Republican 2016 presidential candidate.
Here's where the lying starts:
"Mrs. Christie has decided to take a hiatus from her work in the finance world to spend more time with her family and young children," said Kevin Roberts, a spokesman for the governor, in an emailed statement.

Citing anonymous sources, Fox Business Network reported on Friday that earlier this week, Mary Pat Christie told officials at Angelo Gordon, where she was a managing director, that she would resign as her husband neared a campaign announcement, FOX Business Network reported.

Governor Christie has made some of the pre-campaign appearances usual for presidential contenders seeking to woo voters early. He showed up in New Hampshire in an effort to recapture the spotlight there, as his approval rating at home hit a new low with New Jersey voters.

But he did not appear on Friday in Iowa with conservative Christians hosting other Republican White House hopefuls.

Heidi Cruz, the wife of declared Republican candidate Ted Cruz, worked at Wall Street powerhouse Goldman Sachs until taking unpaid leave last month.
Is every Republican candidate a religious buffoon, as noted immediately below, or married to a prostitute who hooks on Wall Street, or both? Looks as if Sen. Rafael "I'll even lie about my name" Cruz has pikers Christie & Walker beaten, he's got both!

Although it looks as if Gov. Walker has Oedipal issues w/ his wife, the twelve-yrs.-older-than-he Ton-ette.

Christ on a crutch, these sick fucks (As well as this Nation of Sheep being led to slaughter by these twisted idiots.) would be better off consulting mental health professionals rather than campaign consultants & operatives. Can't Republicans find anyone w/o deep-seated psychological issues whom they would like to see leading the nation?

Seriously, find one face in this mess that is not stupid, psychologically disturbed or both. If not worse.

Son Of A Bitch & A Preacher Man

Didn't know Wisconsin's Gov. Scott Walker (not to be confused w/ Alaska's Gov. Bill Walker) was another fucking Sen. Ted Cruz, in that both are the spawn of flock-grifting religious parasites.

Judging from those two examples, preachers reproducing should probably be classified as a form of child abuse.

Police Brutality? Murder? Nah.

No, none of the above, per The Late Breitbart's Matthew Boyle, who apparently had his drinking & sport-viewing disturbed last night & had to type about it. Per Boyle, events in Baltimore last night were "racial protests".
BALTIMORE, Maryland — Racial protests supposed to be peaceful quickly turned into violent riots on Saturday evening, closing down the city of Baltimore for some time—and creating a panic for thousands of people as just 50 miles away elites in Washington partied with President Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Personally, I wasn’t supposed to be on the job tonight as a reporter. After a long news week and as several of my contemporaries lived high on the hog down in D.C. at the so-called “Nerd Prom,” me and my brother left D.C. to go see our Boston Red Sox play the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards I hate the White House Correspondents’ Dinner—it represents everything I think is wrong with Washington, making celebrities out of news media and politicians—and given the fact I grew up just outside Boston I figured seeing the Red Sox play in Baltimore would be a great reprieve from the political culture. Boy was I wrong.

Here's a big fucking surprise: Ice cream maker Blue Bell, which runs such shitty operations they had to be shut down for cleaning due to listeria infestation
HOUSTON - Blue Bell says it is temporarily ceasing operations while workers undergo new system training.

Blue Bell has been producing ice cream this week for testing only. This will end on Friday and the ice cream will not be sold.

Starting Monday, the plant will be training employees at all four Blue Bell locations on new, intense cleaning procedures. The plant will not be producing ice cream during this time. It is unclear how long the training will take.

There is not a timeline for when Blue Bell products will be back on the shelves. "We've always worked to make the very highest quality ice cream," said Blue Bell CEO and President Paul Kruse. "We intend to make a fresh start and that begins with intensive cleaning and enhanced training. This is a paradigm shifting event at Blue Bell and we want to put in place new systems to drive continuous improvement."
is a big contributor to, shall we say, reactionary causes.

100 Yrs. Of Gas

Warfare, that is. Proud of yourselves, humanoids?
STEENSTRATE, Belgium (AP) — As a spring breeze wafted into his trench, commander Georges Lamour of the French 73rd infantry saw something almost surreal drift his way. A yellow-green cloud.

He barely had time to react. "All my trenches are choked," Lamour cried into the field telephone to headquarters. "I am falling myself!"

These were the last words heard from Lamour. World War I, and warfare itself, were never the same.

Chlorine gas — sent crawling in favorable winds over Flanders Fields from German positions — sowed terror and agony for the first time on April 22, 1915. The era of chemical weaponry had dawned. The weapon of mass slaughter came to symbolize the ruthlessness and, many say, futility of the 1914-1918 Great War.

"It is a new element in warfare. It is indiscriminate," said Piet Chielens, curator at the In Flanders' Fields Museum in nearby Ypres. And what's more, he said, "you create psychological terror."

Foaming at the mouth, crazed and blinded, the French soldiers fled in all directions — sucking for oxygen, finding poison instead. The chlorine seeped into body fluids and ate away at eyes, throat and lungs. Some 1,200 French soldiers were killed in the chaos of that first 5-minute gas attack and the fighting that followed. Lamour, like scores of comrades, was never found.

"You drown in your own lungs," Chielens said.

Today, cyclists crisscross these same fields and farmers plow around monuments honoring the first gas victims. On Tuesday, the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize-winning Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will hold a commemorative meeting close to the fields. The organization today monitors reports that chlorine gas has repeatedly been used in Syria's civil war.

"NOTHING TO REPORT"

A century ago Tuesday, German forces gathered their best and brightest at army headquarters in Tielt, some 30 miles (50 kilometers) behind the front line, for a momentous discussion.

Commanders had already been waiting 10 days for favorable winds, huddled in a patrician mansion lined with maps and dotted with landscape models. Tension had steadily risen after the Schlieffen Plan to smash through Belgium and take Paris by storm bogged down in Flanders and northern France. Germany was bent on breaking the stalemate of trench warfare. All options were open.

Holding back some German commanders was their sense of military honor. Some argued that deploying more troops would achieve a bigger breakthrough.

Fritz Haber, a chemical expert and future winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, preached for more gas for more shock and awe. Others wondered if gas could be trusted to work as advertised.

Exasperated, Chief of General Staff Erich von Falkenhayn decided: Tomorrow we use the gas, or not at all.

Across the line, Lamour's French forces were reporting from the trenches: "Rien a signaler" — nothing to report. That might have been different had they been able to peer a bit further across no-man's land — at how German troops had dug in, under cover of night, more than 5,000 gas cylinders with tubes pointing their way.

The next morning, German trenches were filled with soldiers ready to pounce once the gas had cleared. The plan was to release the chlorine in the frosty morning hours, when it would cling best to the surface and give soldiers a full day to advance. But a windless morning came and went. The breeze picked up only in the afternoon. At 5 p.m. the gas cylinders were opened, with devastating effect.

Once the gas cleared, the soldiers jumped out and made more progress than they had in months. Men, horses, rats, even insects — all lay dead or choking before them.

"The effect of that gas was enormous," said historian Ann Callens. "Even the German troops and certainly the German generals were completely astonished."

"In one hour's time, they had a gap of more than 6 kilometers (4 miles) So the town of Ypres was nearly in their hands," said Callens, author of "Gas! Ieper 1915, the first gas attack."

Dusk was closing in fast though and lack of full confidence in gas came to haunt the Germans that day.

"The German army command has no great belief in this new weapon," Chielens said. "So they don't have a big infantry division behind it. That is not enough to result in a complete breakthrough."

After April 22, the surprise factor evaporated and the stalemate endured.

"IT SEEMS PRETTY CERTAIN WE SHALL RETALIATE"

But the genie was out of the bottle. The Germans needed only to look at how the prevailing westerly winds bent Flanders' stately trees toward their own positions to know that gas would inevitably come drifting their way. They could celebrate a momentary victory, but the war was about to become a lot uglier for both sides.

Laurence Cadbury of the British chocolate dynasty had come to Flanders to help as an ambulance driver. Cadbury, a pacifist Quaker, had an immediate grasp of what the Germans' use of the gas horror meant.

"It seems pretty certain we shall retaliate," he wrote to his parents only one week after the initial German attack. "After all, it is no use appealing to anyone."

The first use by allied forces came in September, when the British unleashed poison gas on the Germans at the battle of Loos, just across from Ypres in northern France.

Rival armies ultimately launched 146 gas attacks in Belgium, which covered only a small patch of the Western Front. The Germans used about 150 tons of gas in their first attack. Germany ultimately used 68,000 tons. The Allies used even more: 82,000 tons.

The lethal power of more sophisticated gases increased the horror by the month, even as the improvement of gas mask designs required more and more poison to be deployed. The invention of gas shells fired by artillery eliminated dependence on favorable winds.

The last gas attack came just three days before the armistice of Nov. 11, 1918. Historians estimate that more than 1 million soldiers were exposed to gas — and 90,000 killed.

"MON BIEN CHER GEORGES"

Peace brought no end to the suffering caused by the weapon.

"A lot of the effects did not kill you but they were lasting. You have chronic bronchitis, pneumonia," Chielens said. "The veterans of the war took it with them to their graves."

Dormant shells littered farmland. Even today, farmers suffer health problems after digging up this toxic harvest.

The French army told Georges Lamour's wife, Angele, that he either died from gas or was taken prisoner. She kept believing her husband was alive.

Month after month, she wrote letters to "Mon bien cher Georges." On May 2, 1918, three years after his presumed death, she still wrote: "Is springtime coming so late for you as it is for us?"

Sometimes, their three children took to pen and paper.

Lamour's son Etienne wrote on Dec. 8, 1915: "Mon cher papa, Mama allowed me to write you today because I came in first in the school exams, first in the division's literary contest, and second in German."
Earlier today:
Published:
BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgian King Philippe led Wednesday’s centennial remembrance in Flanders Fields marking the first use of chemical weapons in warfare.

The monarch went close to the fields where Germany first used chlorine gas in its April 22, 1915, attack, to pay tribute to all victims of such arms over the past century by laying a wreath at two monuments.

Allied and German forces used so many chemical shells during the 1914-1918 war that ploughing farmers still come across them in old battlefields to this day. The rival armies launched 146 gas attacks in Belgium alone.

The ceremonies ended with the playing of the Last Post bugle call at the Menin Gate in Ypres, the memorial to the missing from the Great War.

What has happened is that the same things keep happening. The tidal wave of money keeps happening, the trivialization of coverage keeps happening, the extremism of the Republican Party keeps happening (Ted Cruz: abolish the I.R.S.; Rand Paul: the Common Core is “un-American”). The issues remain huge and urgent: inequality, global warming, immigration, poorly educated children, American decline, radical Islamism. But the language of politics stays the same, and it is a dead language. The notion that answers will come from Washington or the campaign trail is beyond far-fetched.

Poland Gets Pissy

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's Foreign Ministry urgently summoned U.S. Ambassador Stephen Mull on Sunday to "protest and demand an apology," saying the head of the FBI suggested that Poles were accomplices in the Holocaust.

FBI director James Comey made the remarks in an article about the Holocaust that was published by The Washington Post on Thursday. It was adapted from a speech he gave Wednesday at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In the article, Comey said, "In their minds, the murderers and accomplices of Germany, and Poland, and Hungary, and so many, many other places didn't do something evil. They convinced themselves it was the right thing to do, the thing they had to do."

Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said Comey's words were "unacceptable" in Poland.
Protesting a little much aren't they? As if anyone believes the Catholics of WWII Poland were all innocent &/or hiding Jewish Poles from the Nazis. Ha ha ha. All those jokes were right. Fucking Polacks. Hope the Ambassador gives them a lesson in history.

Domestic extremism, however, remains a persistent threat, and the United States has experienced violent ideologically-motivated criminal acts, both prior to and after the Oklahoma City attack.

Police Terror state:

FBI overstated forensic hair matches in nearly all trials before 2000

Of 28 examiners with the FBI Laboratory’s microscopic hair comparison unit, 26 overstated forensic matches in ways that favored prosecutors in more than 95 percent of the 268 trials reviewed so far, according to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Innocence Project, which are assisting the government with the country’s largest post-conviction review of questioned forensic evidence.

The cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death. Of those, 14 have been executed or died in prison, the groups said under an agreement with the government to release results after the review of the first 200 convictions.

Another Exact Anniv. (Barely)

Paul Kuntzler said that when he and nine other people picketed the White House 50 years ago today, protesting the government's treatment of gays and lesbians, he could not imagine how far the gay rights movement would come in five decades.

That protest on April 17, 1965, is believed to the first gay rights demonstration, advocates say.

"It was so revolutionary,” Kuntzler, 73, said. “It had never been done before anywhere in the world. We all wore coats and ties and we all had pseudonyms."

At the time they felt they had to use made-up names to protect their identities, he said.

There has been another night of xenophobic violence in parts of South Africa's largest city.

Protesters set cars alight on Friday night and attempted to loot shops owned by foreigners in the Jeppestown suburb of Johannesburg.

Stones were thrown at police who fired rubber bullets at the crowd.

The violence has been going on for about a fortnight - mostly in Durban. But in the past few days, trouble has spread to Johannesburg.

Summons of Japanese media raises complaints of interference

TOKYO (AP) — Japan's ruling party summoned executives from two leading television networks Friday, the latest in a series of actions that opponents say endanger press freedom and intimidate the media.

The Liberal Democratic Party's panel on information and communications strategy questioned the executives from Asahi TV and public broadcaster NHK about two separate programs at the party's headquarters.

In one program, an Asahi commentator made remarks critical of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's office, while another program on NHK allegedly contained staged material.

The opposition Democratic Party criticized the questioning as a potential infringement of press freedom.

Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga denied suggestions of censorship and said the summons were not intended to pressure the media.

Abe's government has been criticized as being too sensitive to critical reporting.

Jiro Kawasaki, head of the LDP panel, said the two executives were summoned to answer questions about allegations that the programs contained "distorted" materials.

Media watchers and political analysts say mainstream media have been shunning critical reporting to avoid trouble with officials who are increasingly touchy about how Japan and government policies are portrayed by both domestic and foreign media.

Koichi Nakano, an international politics professor at Sophia University in Tokyo, said Abe's government is promoting a revisionist view of Japan's wartime military atrocities, and is steering public opinion to support divisive policies such as expanding the military's role and revising the country's war-renouncing constitution.

Without checks and balances from a viable liberal opposition, "the LDP has no limits," Nakano said.

Conservative businessman Katsuto Momii, appointed by Abe in 2013 to head NHK, quickly sparked criticism by saying that the public broadcaster's reporting should be aligned with government policy, despite its longstanding editorial independence.

Although Japan's Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and press, many see worrisome trends in the past several years:
— Ahead of a December general election, the LDP sent a statement to Japanese media requesting "fair coverage."
— Abe and his government chastised the liberal-leaning Asahi newspaper over decades-old stories about Japan's wartime military brothel system — a topic of abiding friction with China, South Korea and other countries whose citizens suffered abuses by the Imperial Army before and during World War II.
— The Foreign Ministry complained to U.S. publisher McGraw-Hill about references to the military brothel system in a high school history textbook and sent an envoy to one of the writers to protest in person. The issues raised in Friday's meeting were somewhat more mundane.

Shigeaki Koga, a former trade ministry official, quit TV Asahi's "Hodo Station," a popular nightly news show, after recently making critical remarks about the Prime Minister's Office's treatment of the media.

Koga, who now is an independent commentator, says he finds many stories are not getting the coverage they deserve because of a trend toward authoritarianism.

"If the ongoing media self-censorship continues and there is only news that serves the government's interest, people will be brainwashed," Koga said in a speech Thursday at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan.

The Foreign Ministry's budget for propagating its official views on history and territorial disputes was raised to 52 billion yen ($438 million) this year from 2 billion yen last year to "correct understanding by the international society," the ministry says.

Jeff Kingston, director of Asian Studies at Temple University in Tokyo, says intolerance of criticism has grown because of a tendency to equate criticism of the Japanese government with anti-Japanese sentiment.

"This shabby tactic defines criticism of Abe as criticism of Japan putting journalists in the awkward position of having to demonstrate 'love' for Japan," he said in an article Friday in the online review Asia-Pacific Journal.
