Health Dep't. Closures

Ha ha we kid. Wasn't the Health Dep't., it's the economy, stupid! Or landlord greed.

Unlike many of the local businesses whose closing we schadenfreudenly note in this space, we had et more than once at Villa Italian; lived in the Half Moon Motel directly across Sepulveda Blvd. for several months in 2008-9. And even post-Culver City residence, prior to events at the bar & music dump next to next door. Same old story, once a family-owned yada yada unpretentious family-friendly establishment, but two owners & many decades later ...

The Health Dep't. really didn't have anything to do w/ Diesel Books (Malibu) surrendering. Books already marked down.

Last but not least, we'll miss Hamburger Hamlet's lobster bisque & the coffee shakes. Not that we'd been in one in this millenium.

They used to be in all the more up-scale sectors. And what the hell happened to the one on Hollywood Blvd.? (Was it where the Hooters is now?)

Wage & Price Editor:
Well, minimum wage was maybe $3.00/hr. then.

I remember "gas wars" in the veddy late '50s when it would dip to 29¢/gal.
