I'm Pissed, I'm Raging!

Kevin Drum asks "Why Are So Many People in a Blind Rage These Days?" Gawd but we are tired of fucking idiots! The correct question is, "What is wrong w/ those who aren't in a blind rage?" Seriously, if an American citizen isn't in a state of constant rage s/he is failing, as it is a citizen's duty to be informed. Are they that stupid & ignorant? Deaf dumb & blind? Just fucking losers?
But why? There's always been a faction of right-wing craziness in America. It's part of our DNA. But how did it become so widespread? The usual answer involves the rise of conservative think tanks, conservative talk radio, Fox News, the Christian right, and racial resentment toward a black president. And maybe that's it. Somehow, though, it doesn't feel quite sufficient. But if it's not, then what's going on? What's happened over the past decade or two to spin up so many Americans into a blind rage?

Complaining about tea party congressmen misses the big picture. The problem is the people who voted them into office. What happened to them?
They have been royally screwed for all the history of this country (First the native population, then the slaves, now the workers.) & they are so fucking stupid that the very people who've been fucking them in the ass since slavery convinced the sheep that this is the best of all possible worlds & it does them no good to get angry & kill the rich. Here's our problem: If the masses can't be persuaded to revolt against the horrors of their daily life they are no better than the people who make their lives miserable, & we don't care about them any more. One can only sympathize w/ a dog being whipped for so long before one starts to wonder what the fuck is wrong w/ Rover, why he hasn't ripped the throat out of the sadistic bastard torturing him, & why in hell save an animal that's obviously not good breeding stock?

I think you ultimately answer your own question. Their lives aren't the existential horror you describe. They've got their slabs of meat on the grille, they've got their beer, they've got their pickup truck and their lever-action rifle in the gunrack, their flat-screen teevee and a friday night tussle between the sheets.

Sure, they believe the COUNTRY is going to hell, with the blacks and the gays and the socialists, but THEIR life, when compared with the lives of people who actually took action, is pretty great.
