Good Taste Is Timeless, But Who Gives A Shit?

Gone are the days of excess. Los Angeles makes do w/ scaled down efforts. The high point of Vulgar Classicism (or Classic Vulgarity) was the Beverly Hills mansion that an Ay-rab Sheikh had going for a while in the '80s, which featured several close to life-sized statues atop the hundred or so ft. of fence along Sunset Blah. Said statues were "sexually explicit."
In 1978 Al-Fassi paid $2.4 million for a Beverly Hills mansion and then turned it into a gaudy local attraction by painting the 38-room house lime-green and making the statuary on the grounds sexually explicit with colored nipples, pubic hair and worse. "We just wanted to make the place more beautiful," Dena explained.
This one we see whenever we head into the sunset along Third St. It does seem like a lovely neighborhood, if you like assholes w/ too much money & time.
19 statues of David line the driveway. Apparently the owner, Norbert Youngwood, after neighbors expressed displeasure over his erecting a single statue of David, retaliated by adding 18 brothers of various sizes.
Obligatory fascist flickr credit, from Franklin Ave (Not fascists. We think.) who have another entry in the multiple statuary competition.
People are just awful, aren't they?

From Our "Tastes Good" Editor:

We are a bit concerned that either Substantial already knew or was inspired (or terminally bored enough) to look up Norwood.

Went by a couple of days ago & there was a bronze Volvo station wagon in front, for whatever that's worth.
