Corporatism Is Fascism Dep't.

A new explanation for the recent financial crisis, from POLITICO:
But the close ties between active-duty and retired CIA officers at one consulting company show the degree to which CIA-style intelligence gathering techniques have been employed by hedge funds and financial institutions in the global economy.
Are we sure that "CIA-style intelligence gathering techniques" isn't a euphemism for "CIA intelligence gathering resources, paid for by tax dollars?"
But sources familiar with the CIA’s moonlighting policy defend it as a vital tool to prevent brain-drain at Langley, which has seen an exodus of highly trained, badly needed intelligence officers to the private sector, where they can easily double or even triple their government salaries. The policy gives agents a chance to earn more while still staying on the government payroll.
Buncha John McCains at the CIA. Country first, right? Keeping America safe from guys who want to blow up their underwear while they're still in it & all that. (Speaking of ... Has anyone scanned Ross Douthat's skivvies lately?) More important than money, you'd think. For "patriots" anyway.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who should be informed about that which they are writing aren't. Sometimes purposely so.

The top CIA officers (and foreign service officers too) were driven out by the Cheneyites in the early 2000's because they refused to change their intelligence to benefit the junta. This was the move to politicize it as well as fill it with clods and toadies, and suborn George Tenet who had no problem showing his personal quotient of integrity on TV (as you will remember) when he lied repeatedly about 9/11.

'Shocked, Simply Shocked!" Ed. Adds:

The clods & toadies being the ones who get to rake in the extra $$, no doubt.

We read an article in The Nation 20 or 25 yrs. ago about the FBI concentrating on bank robberies, rather than serious, large-scale white-collar crime (let alone right-wing extremists) because agents retiring in their late '40s or early '50s could then get cushy jobs in "security" at banks.

And, ret'd. FBI agents join the various 'phone cos'. security dep'ts. too. Makes it so much easier for a G-Man to get a wiretap if the guy at the 'phone co. used to have the office next to his.
